Student Programs Senior Specialist

Jim Schwarten received his PhD in Italian from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He has taught a wide array of courses as an adjunct professor in university programs in Italy since 2005. For Notre Dame he has taught immersive Italian language and culture courses at Notre Dame Rome since 2018. He has translated Italian author Dacia Maraini's theatrical works (Extravagance and Three Other Plays), and he co-curated the art exhibit Impressionisti Danesi in Abruzzo for Italy's National Gallery of Modern Art.

Jim Schwarten serves as student programs senior specialist. In this role, he coordinates and executes all activities associated with undergraduate student internships in Rome. He also develops and implements co- and extra-curricular activities in Rome for all Notre Dame students, develops semester calendars, supports students’ enrollment in collaborating institutions in the city, and assists faculty on academic matters.
