Image as Theology – Colloquium

Location: Rome Global Gateway

July 4 – 6, 2017

This colloquium will be the second of a two-part series examining the theme of Image as Theology (the first part having been successfully held at the London Global Gateway in Summer 2016). It will bring together international specialists in art history, biblical theology, historical theology, systematic theology, and literature to continue to explore, analyze, and constructively assess the ways in which images influence both biblical interpretation in particular and theological ideas more broadly. The first part of the series was a chance for each participant to bring a nascent project to the table for intense discussion and debate. This second part will involve the presentation of each project in a longer and more polished form, followed by further discussion. We anticipate incorporating a visit to the Vatican Museums (the first colloquium included a fruitful visit to the National Gallery in London) as a key part of our proceedings.
