Cities in Text: Rome - Exploring the Eternal City through Drawings and Guidebooks

This conference brings together international scholars to discuss the variety of ways that drawings and guides to Rome have shaped our understanding and visualization of the Eternal City over time. The essays presented at this conference examine the evolution of guides to Rome from the sixteenth to the eighteenth century, their importance in library collections, the use of these texts in creating new architectural drawings, and their role in the contemporary digital documentation of such a complex and layered urban environment.
