Rappresentazioni e Narrazioni di Filosofe nel Rinascimento - Representations and Narratives of Women Philosophers in the Renaissance

Location: Notre Dame Rome

The seminar aims to explore how women philosophers were represented in Renaissance art. It will examine not only the artworks depicting female intellectuals but, more importantly, the representations of women made by women themselves. The objective is to reconstruct the interpretative freedom that learned ladies experienced in the early modern age, as well as their awareness of their ability to narrate their own stories and present themselves to an audience as autonomous thinkers.
