What’s new about interreligious engagement in the current global context?
Over the last twenty years policymakers, states, and religious leaders have invested in new forms of interreligious engagement in the broader Mediterranean and Middle East. These initiatives have often been framed as innovative peacebuilding efforts which respond to the escalation of violent armed conflicts in the region. Some have seen these efforts as offering hope; others have criticized them for the politics they reflect. Dr. Fadi Daou, the executive director of Globethics and co-founder of Adyan Foundation in Lebanon, will reflect on these new dynamics and the opportunities and risks they present for international peace.
Adyan Foundation is a civil society organization promoting inclusive citizenship and interreligious solidarity. Dr. Daou is a recent recipient of the MIT Elevate Prize and Adyan Foundation was awarded the Niwano Peace Prize in 2018.
