On May 8, 2025, the cardinals in conclave elected a second pope from the Americas. Born in the American Midwest and formed by decades of service as an Augustinian missionary, educator, pastor, and bishop in Peru, Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost, O.S.A., most recently served the global Church through leadership roles at the Holy See.

In this lecture, Cushwa Center co-director David Lantigua will consider the early days of Leo XIV’s pontificate in relation to the legacy of Pope Francis.
