Religious Humanisms, Inclusive Citizenship and Democracy

This two-day workshop explores the use of religious or faith-based expressions of humanism in contemporary global politics as a basis for promoting human dignity, democracy and international cooperation. It includes keynote lectures by Robert Hefner (Boston University) on the Humanitarian Islam movement in Indonesia and Luke Bretherton (Oxford University) on Christian Humanism and Christian democracy. The conference is sponsored by the University of Notre Dame Rome and the Ansari Institute for Global Engagement with Religion; John Cabot University; the Hanns Seidel Stiftung; the Luigi Sturzo Institute; and the Institute for Humanitarian Islam.
