A cohort of ND students in Rome participate in the EU Scholars Pilot Program
In the Fall semester 2022 the Rome Gateway participated in the Nanovic Institute and Dublin Global Gateway’s EU Scholars pilot program, which aims at deepening ND students’ understanding of the European Union while they are studying in Europe. The program culminated in a four days trip to Brussels that followed preparatory lectures organized by the Gateway in Rome.
A select group of seven students in Rome and two student from Dublin had the chance to spend the first half of the semester meeting with experts from the political, non-governmental, and private sectors, learning about the role of the European Union. These events were part of the RGG Spotlight Series - Perspectives on Current Affairs, and were focused on the role of religion in the EU, the outcome of the Italian political elections and European borders.
At the end of October, thestudents traveled to Brussels for an immersive study trip, during which they visited the European Parliament, toured the Politico Newsrooms, and met with the Ukrainian Ambassador to the European Union.
Stephanie Arias, one of the ND students who took part in the program commented: "I really enjoyed being part of this program and learned a lot about the EU through it. I especially loved the Parliament tour, Politico meeting, and our conversation with the delegates from the US Mission to the EU."
After the successful pilot program, the Rome and Dublin Global Gateways, alongside the Nanovic Institute, will be offering another EU Scholars program and immersion experience in the Spring of 2024. The London Global Gateway will join as the newest partner in this pan-European programming.
