Rome Global Gateway launches new virtual series on medieval Italian literature
The Rome Global Gateway launches the new series "The Three Crowns: Texts and Contexts of Medieval Italy. New Books of Italian Philology and Literature. I edition: Dante 2021."
This first series of four seminars proposes the presentation of recently published books on Dante within an initiative dedicated to authors and texts of Medieval Italian philology and literature and to the most current themes in these disciplines. It aims to promote a fruitful discussion among scholars of various geographical and academic provenances.
The authors and editors of the books will be present at the four meetings that are inspired by the idea of a lively and wide international debate. It will be hosted at the Notre Dame Rome Global Gateway and live streamed in collaboration with the Center for Italian Studies and the Devers Family Program in Dante Studies at the University of Notre Dame, and with Ca' Foscari University of Venice that together with the University of Toronto hosts the research project VERTEXCULT (Vernacular Textual Cultures in Dante’s Tuscany: Education and Literary Practices in Context, ca. 1250 - ca. 1321).
The series is organized by Chiara Sbordoni of the University of Notre Dame's Rome Global Gateway and Luca Lombardo, who holds a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Global Fellowship at the Ca' Foscari University of Venice and the University of Toronto for the VERTEXTCULT project and is a former Devers Postdoctoral Fellow in Dante Studies at the University of Notre Dame's Rome Global Gateway.
"We are very happy to launch this first series of international meetings on recent academic publications on Medieval Italian literature," says Sbordoni.
"This series draws on the collaboration between the Rome Global Gateway and the Notre Dame Center for Italian Studies and Devers Program in Dante Studies and establishes new partnerships with prestigious Italian institutions such as Ca' Foscari University of Venice and the Scuola Normale Superiore of Pisa. The first year of the series commemorates the seventh anniversary of Dante Alighieri's death (1321-2021), centering on four volumes on the poet who is at the origin of the Italian literary tradition."
The first seminar will be Dante e la cultura fiorentina. Bono Giamboni, Brunetto Latini e la formazione intellettuale dei laici, a cura di Zygmunt G. Barański, Theodore J. Cachey, Jr. e Luca Lombardo (Roma: Salerno editrice, 2019). The event will take place on November 19, 2020.
