Women and peacebuilding: uncapping the power of Catholic women peacebuilders
Peacebuilding efforts worldwide are being challenged in unprecedented ways due to an increasingly complex and rapidly changing global landscape. The Catholic Church recognizes that innovative, entrepreneurial approaches are needed to answer the call for peace, which includes the leadership contributions of women.
On Tuesday, June 17, Notre Dame Rome is hosting a roundtable discussion intentionally focused on creating space for women’s leadership in the Church and identifying their role in peacebuilding moving forward. “Women and peacebuilding: uncapping the power of Catholic women peacebuilders” is a hybrid event and will take place from 5-6:30 p.m./Rome time (11 a.m.-12:30 p.m./EDT). To join the discussion virtually, pre-registration is needed.
Flora Gicquel, a University of Notre Dame research fellow based at Caritas Internationalis, will introduce the event’s panel of speakers:
-
His Excellency Ambassador Hyunjoo Oh, South Korean Ambassador to the Holy See
-
Rev. Avelino Chico, head of Office, Dicastery for the Promotion of Integral Human Development
-
Rev. Luis Carlos Aguilar Badilla, vicar general and councilor, Diocese of Puntarenas (Costa Rica)
-
Christine Laura Okello, humanitarian coordinator at Caritas Uganda
-
Monica Santamarina, president general of the World Union of Catholic Women's Organisations
French and Spanish interpretation will be available for online participants.
“Women and peacebuilding: uncapping the power of Catholic women peacebuilders” is co-sponsored by Notre Dame Rome, Caritas Internationalis, Catholic Peacebuilding Network and the Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies, part of the Keough School of Global Affairs at the University of Notre Dame.
