Her other research interests include medieval and early modern autobiography and life writing, Italian cinema, and the works of Pier Paolo Pasolini.

Sparrow is originally from London and earned her B.A. in French and Italian from the University of Reading. She completed her M.A. in Romance Languages and Literatures and her Ph.D. in Italian Studies at the University of Notre Dame.
