Roberto Rea is a Full Professor of Philology of Italian Literature at the University of Rome Tor Vergata, where he is also Coordinator of the PhD program in Italian and Art Historical Studies. In the spring of 2023, he served as the Fulbright Chair Distinguished Lecturer at the University of Chicago. He has participated in numerous international conferences and given invited lectures at Italian and foreign institutions and universities, including the University of Chicago, the University of Notre Dame, the Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa, Columbia University, New York University, the Accademia dei Lincei, Oxford University, St. Andrews University, the Universidade de Santiago de Compostela, and Université Paris III-Sorbonne Nouvelle. He has published numerous articles and essays on medieval lyric poetry, from the troubadours to Petrarch, on Dante's Vita nuova and Commedia, on Leopardi's Canti. Among his most recent volumes are the annotated edition of the Rime by Guido Cavalcanti (Carocci, 2011); the critical edition of the Rime by Lapo Gianni (Salerno Editrice, 2019); and the monograph Dante: guida alla Vita nuova (Carocci, 2020). He also edited the volumes Dal paesaggio all'ambiente. Sentimento della natura nella tradizione poetica italiana (Edizioni di storia e letteratura, 2020) and Dante (with Justin Steinberg; Carocci, 2020).
