Opere e Invenzione

Location: Rome Global Gateway

Prof. Mayernik had two residences last semester. The first was at the Fondazione Giorgio Cini in Venice. His research was focused on the Sant’Angelo theater where many of Vivaldi’s operas were performed, and the sets for which no visual documentation survives. He produced sketches and color studies for scenes from one of Vivaldi's best known operas, Orlando. His second, longer residency fellowship was at the Bogliasco Foundation near Genova, from mid-October to mid-November. The Foundation brings together artists and scholars from all over the world to work in its idyllic Villa dei Pini, sharing meals and conversation between work in inspiring studio spaces. His proposal there had to do with his ongoing book project on creativity in the Renaissance. He used the time to primarily develop illustrations for the book, explaining for example Brunelleschi’s design process and the sources of Sansovino’s Libreria Marciana in Venice.
