Notre Dame Rome has five classrooms and seminar rooms that can accommodate various numbers, ranging from 15 to 50 people, in addition to two architectural studios. The main conference room, Walsh Aula, holds up to 120 people and is frequently used for academic conferences, lectures, book presentations and meetings, as well as student orientations.

Also available are group study rooms, interview rooms, a painting studio, the Rome library, a computer lab, printers, and scanners. Wireless internet is accessible throughout the building.

Rome Gateway Building Chapel

Students can relax and mingle in the Undergraduate and Graduate lounges on the third and fourth floors, complete with plush leather couches, tables and chairs.

An Exhibition Space is available for student exhibits, presentations, and activities as well as host smaller events and receptions throughout the year.

Within the building there is a landscaped inner courtyard as well as terraces on the second-floor and rooftop that provide tranquility and fresh air. All are popular places to sit and have lunch in the summer months, or gather for receptions in the evening. 

The second level has a chapel for private prayer and organized services.

Open Hours

The Via Ostilia building is open from 9:00 a.m. to midnight. Hours may vary during the summer session, Christmas and Easter vacations, and some public holidays.

Those with a connection to Notre Dame who wish to look around the building may apply for a tour between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday by emailing rome@nd.edu. Affiliations include (but are not limited to) directors, alumni, ND students from campus or other programs, prospective students and parents of students. Applications should include the preferred date and time, details of your affiliation with the University, and the reason for requesting a visit.

Anyone wishing to enter or stay in the building must register at reception, and sign out upon leaving the building.
